There are a few works aiming to fill the existent gaps of information, but due to the peculiarities of artisanal/small-scale fisheries, they are all based on generic information. In light of this, this work introduces a new monitoring method, the “Tecnologia Social de Baixo Custo Aplicada ao Monitoramento da Pesca de Pequena Escala - TSBCAMPPE”, presents the results from the monitoring made from May 2018 to April 2019, and brings new discussion about the dynamics of inland artisanal/small-scale fishery systems in the Southwestern Amazon. The monitored landings captures are distributed in 5 orders, 16 families, 53 species, and brings new and refined information of each species taxonomy, catch (kg), effort (man.days fishing-1), biometrics, capture site, revenue, among others. This opens unprecedented data analyses possibilities, from the identification of the species that compose the “salada”, to the use of more robust stock assessment analysis, bringing new light to discussions about the Amazonian fisheries management, its current legislation, and the impacts of anthropic activities (e.g. deforestation, overfishing, hydroelectric investments). We could also detect the presence of an exotic species, reinforcing the assertiveness of the developed method and the need of replication to other parts of the Amazon. Finally, this is a social processual technology, since it counts on the involvement of the fishermen linked to the activity, associations, and researchers in the data collection and analyses. This, in its turn, allows a participative projection of the fishery production for upcoming years, and consequently, an evaluation of the effects of current public policies on the fishery resources."

Resumo

Despite the importance of the commercial and industrial fishing, artisanal/small-scale systems also play an essential role, particularly in the riverine and indigenous communities’ economies and food supplies. This, in its turn, allows a participative projection of the fishery production for upcoming years, and consequently, an evaluation of the effects of current public policies on the fishery resources.
